Mio Digiwalker C520

So, I decided that with my soon to be frequent travels to Atlanta, that a GPS unit might be nice. After reading a good many reviews, I opted to get the Mio Digiwalker C520.

As I write this, I’ve only had it for a day. I’m still learning to use it. But I am enjoying it so far. The interface is mostly intuitive. It was a bit stubborn this morning as I tried to make it tell me how to get to work. It insisted on telling me how to get to Atlanta instead.

I was concerned about whether I’d be able to head the text to speech voice, but it is loud enough to hear even with the stereo going. It is also speed sensitive and increases the volume as you drive faster. It also has the ability to act as a hands-free device for my bluetooth enabled cell phone. My cell phone has a speaker phone capability anyway, so not sure I will use this feature ever, but if you hold the GPS close enough to your face, it works. Though that’s not exactly hands-free now is it?

It can also be used as an MP3 player. Just download music to it and play. Or insert an SD/MMC memory card with music on it.

It uses the little USB charger/connector that digital cameras and my cell phone also use. So that’s nice. I can probably just use one charger in my car for both my phone and the GPS. The GPS itself is not a fixed device. It is a handheld, so I can take it with me (and in fact don’t leave it in the truck so it won’t get stolen.)

I’m obviously still evaluating it, but so far, I am liking it. I’ll update this post or add comments as I get more experience with it.
