If you’re doing a lot of driving, you might be interested in a source of free audio books. The web site LibriVox has a large collection of audio books, of public domain works, available in several formats.
The site (like this one) is run off a WordPress blog. It has a plug-in for searching their library of free audio books.
From their site:
LibriVox volunteers record chapters of books in the public domain and release the audio files back onto the net. Our goal is to make all public domain books available as free audio books. We are a totally volunteer, open source, free content, public domain project.
There are almost one thousand completed works, and some more in progress. Download formats include MP3 (64bit), MP3 (128bit), and OGG Vorbis. Once you download them, you can either listen on your computer, or download to iPods, etc., or burn them to audio CDs. Also, many CD players now support MP3 CDs, so it may be possible to burn an entire book onto one MP3 CD depending on length of the book, and bitrate of MP3.
RSS feeds with a ‘chapter a day’ are also an option. And those interested in contributing to the project can go to the web site and sign up to volunteer.
