I just spent most of the last three work days doing photography. Our communications specialist wanted to improve the photo/phone directory for our department. So she asked me if I would do portraits of our staff. Of course I welcomed the opportunity. I’ve done a little bit of photography ‘on the clock’ in the past, but this is the most I’ve done at once for my employer. So does this make me a semi-professional photographer?
There are about 240 workdays per year. I spent three doing photography for a living. That’s one eightieth of my salary. Not a lot, but at least I can now partially justify some of my expenses on equipment. And it is good to put on the old resume.

For those of you not familiar with Second Life, the best way to describe it would be “The Sims meets MMO�?. Unlike the failed Sims Online, Second Life not only allows, but encourages the players to create content for the virtual world.
In mid-1999, I began playing an MMORPG called Everquest. It was my first MMO. A co-worker introduced me to it. I became hooked. For the next several years, I went through periods of playing the game quite a bit and then I’d get burned out and quit for awhile. Continue reading
I’m very happy today. During my Aikido class today, I finally earned my brown belt. Once you get to brown in our school, you can be considered to be pretty skilled. After two years of work, I feel like my skills will kick in if I get into a situation where I need them to protect myself or others.
I still have a lot to learn. There are three levels of brown belt. So, it will be awhile before I reach black belt. But I’m very happy to be at brown now. It’s much farther than I ever thought I’d get when I started.
History Channel has a new series coming on this Friday that is of interest to martial artists (such as myself). It’s called Human Weapon Looks like they will cover some Judo, Karate and others.
