Property Macro

Frequently, I find myself needing to add a property to an existing entity. Manually typing the property definition is tedious. So, I created a macro to aid this process. Once we move to Visual Studio 2010, this won’t be needed, but until then, it should be pretty handy. (VS2010 will add a new shortcut for creating a simple property with just one line of code.)

Traffic

Today, as I was driving to work, I noticed a problem.  The traffic lights were out at two busy intersections along the light rail corridor. As I was driving to the intersection, I thought, oh no, this will take forever to cross South Blvd. I was wrong. Turns out that the lights being completely dark was a good thing. There was far less congestion than usual. Traffic in all directions was actually moving through the intersection more efficiently than with a functioning light! There was a cop parked at the convenience store at the corner and he wasn’t even out of his car. I guess he figured all he could do by trying to direct traffic would have been to muck it up worse than the traffic lights usually do. So, he was wisely just sitting there.

So, what does this say about our traffic engineers?

Wii is Contagious

So, Adam and I had dinner with Erich and Laura some months ago. Afterwards, we played bowling on their Wii. Then, I bought a Wii. And Adam bought a Wii. It’s a virus. It’s also been surprising how many of my coworkers are buying them too. It’s a game that appeals to all ages and all gaming skill levels.

GMail Attachment Feature

For years now, I have wondered why no email programs caught one of the most common email faux pas. Can you guess what it is? How many times have you either received, or worse, sent an email, promising an attachment and there was no attachment.

I kept thinking, how hard could it possibly be to scan the body of an email message and look for the words “attached” or “attachment” and if there was no attachment, give the user a damn warning message!?!? Well friends, GMail from Google has finally added this feature. To enable this feature, go to your GMail in your browser, select settings and find the Labs tab. Click it and scroll down to you find it.

I really love GMail. I wish it had folders, but that’s my only gripe.

LG Glimmer Cell Phone Review

Today boys and girls, we will take a quick look at some new phone hardware. I recently updated my phone to a new model. For the past two years, I was using a PPC6700 from AudioVox. It is a Windows Mobile 5 based PocketPC device. It has a touchscreen and a slide out QUERTY keyboard, but it’s clunky and hard to dial the phone. Since my two year contract was up on the old phone, I decided to take a look at newer models. Continue reading
